Formation And Well Testing

Formation And Well Testing

Description :
This course focuses on transient well test interpretation and the application of wireline formation testing. The basic theory of steady- and semi-steady-state radial flow is covered as an introduction to reservoir engineering. The proper design of well tests is covered and a framework for interpretation based on diagnostic fingerprints and specialist plots is developed. Field examples are used to illustrate the techniques. The application of distributed pressure data in produced fields is covered particularly with regard to matching with the reservoir simulator.

Outline :
·         Radial flow theory, definition of well productivity index
·         Steady- and semi-steady-state flow regimes
·         Areal flow convergence and Dietz shape factors
·         Concept of mechanical skin and workover design
·         Layered reservoirs and random heterogeneity
·         Pressure Transient Behaviour
·         Logarithmic approximation to the exponential integral solution, Depth of investigation
·         Slope and intercept of the semilog plot - middle time region (MTR), Principle of superposition and buildup analysis (Horner plot), problem of poor flow measurement accuracy
·         Influence of sealing faults and fractured well response
·         Doubling of semilog slope due to a sealing boundary
·         Hemiradial flow, Fault derivative type curve
·         Closed reservoir behavior and constant pressure boundaries
·         North Sea field example, Desuperposition, Kazemi and Slider methods, Reservoir limit testing and reserves estimation

·         New generation wireline formation testers
·         Wireline formation testing in produced fields
·         Differential depletion, dual porosity strata example
·         Determination of vertical communication, partially communicating faults

Who should attend :
This is a course for reservoir engineers, production engineers, development geologists and petrophysicists and all the theory is systematically treated, it is conducted at a fairly high technical level as it moves into the various applications and case studies.
